Fixing and Backing up with Hijack This

Below is the screen you see when you first open Hijack This.
Click do a system scan and save a logfile so that you can post your log to the boards for analysis.
The log opens in notepad, so all you need to do is copy and paste the text to the boards.
Don't try to fix anything unless you are told to do so by a competent person or if you are capable of analysing the log yourself.

If told to fix something you can put a check next to the entries you are told to fix, then click Fix Checked.

Hijack This will automatically make a backup of any entries you fix, these will be strored in the same folder on your computer; which is why it is important to have Hijack This in it's own permanent folder. Do not run Hijack This from a temporary folder.
Clicking the Config button will show you the settings, as you see Make backups before fixing items is checked by default, do not change this.

Clicking the Backups tab will show you any backups that have been made, from here you can check and restore your backups if necessary.
